“Bohemian Rhapsody” is a song written by Freddie Mercury, and played by his British rock band Queen. It was released October 31, 1975 in the album A Night at the Opera. This six minute long masterpiece consists of a tranquil intro, an operatic segment, a rock section, and a soothing outro. “Bohemian Rhapsody” was very popular when is came out, staying at the top of the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks. More than a million copies were sold by the end of January. It eventually became the UK’s third-best-selling single of all time. In 2004, “Bohemian Rhapsody” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is an odd song, using some words that appear in the Qu’ran. Such as “Bismillah” meaning “In the name of Allah.” “Scaramouch” meaning “A character that appears as a boastful coward.” And “Beelzebub,” one of the many names given to The Devil. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a triumphant work of art with many different types of music entangled in it. Freddie never told anyone what the song meant, but his guitarist, Brian May, believes it’s about his childhood and his held back feelings. “Bohemian Rhapsody” was very different from other music at that time because not very many rock operas were being made.

My favorite thing about “Bohemian Rhapsody” is Freddie Mercury’s amazing voice. His voice had such a wide range that he could use his chest voice for most of the song. I also love the harmonies in the a cappella segment in the beginning, and Freddie’s beautiful piano playing throughout the entire piece. When Freddie wrote this song, he knew exactly what he was doing. The transitions from calm to intense were perfectly executed. There is not one part of this song that I dislike, but people who do not like rock may not like this rock piece.

I highly recommend that everyone listen to this song because it influenced the music world in such a big way. It is considered one of the greatest songs of all time. Freddie Mercury was such a talented singer and musician and the entire world should know of his talents.
